Subject: Re: [Leica] Table-top tripod

Three come to mind:
1. Canon Table-Pod 10 (about $30). Similar to the Leitz table top; the
legs fold flat...nice touch is that they stop at the max. open position
whereas the Leitz has to be manually held in place whilst tightening the
lock. The ballhead is sort of wimpy, but it will hold a Leica M steady.
Best way is to replace the ballhead with a Slik Compact Ballhead (about
$20) which is very solid.
2. Slik Mini-Pro. Scaled-down version of a regular tripod, with
telescoping tubular legs and an adjustable centre column. Comes with
Slik Compact ballhead. About $40.
3. Manfrotto/Bogen 3008. About $30. Smallest of the lot, but very
sturdy. Black crinkle finish, does a Leica kit proud. Comes with very
solid Mini Ballhead. Also available: very nice telescoping centre column
extension.
Of course, the Leitz table pod is very nice, but even used ones command a
heft price, as do the Leitz ballheads.

Regards,
Nigel
