Subject: Re: [Leica] Another question on 70-180 and 80-200

I can't comment on the optical comparison, but the Leica 80-200 is not
exactly tiny nor a featherweight, and it does not have a tripod mount.
The f/4 speed means slower shutter speeds in dim light; this coupled with
the lens' length makes sharp images at the long end more difficult than
with the 180/4.
What I might be inclined to do in your case (and this is assuming
compatibility, which as a non-user of Leica R I can't vouch for) is sell
the 135 and purchase a 1.4x multiplier. In that way, you would have a
100/2.8, 140/4 *macro* (100 APO + 1.4x), 180/4, and a *small, light*
252/5.6 (180/4 + 1.4x) with the same close-focussing as the 180.

Nigel
