Subject: RE: [Leica] Tripods and RRS plates - grip making a plate

Tim:

Take 1/8" aliminum plate, set your table saw blade at 45 degrees and rip an
inch and a half strip with the 45 degree edge on each side. Cut it to the
proper width of your grip. Drill four holes in the bottom of your grip and
attach the plate by tapping matching holes in the plate you just made. The
aluminum cuts easily on a table saw and a carbide blade is what I use. I
have seen aluminum cut with just normal blades as well.

I have an Arc type head and have made four plates this way using about $2
of scrap aluminum. I then paint them black and bake the paint on in the
oven. From previous posts, I was thinking you could do the same to an M6
base plate if you could find one cheap enough.

Robert Stevens
