I have just   proved to my satisfaction that it may all be in the eye of
the beholder. Following a cataract removal from the left eye recently, I
find that whites look like snow rather than cream. I had forgotten that.  
The unmodernised right eye still sees a warm,Victorian, world lit by
paraffin lamps.  Very attractive, too.  Another plus is that I can now use
the left eye to assess in advance the effect of using Kodachrome, and the
right eye for, say, Velvia.  (Advance apologies if I have selected the
wrong films - just put in the names that work for
you).

Every cloud has a silver or gold lining.
