I'll let you in on a secret: the *best* 35mm Nikkor is the latest f2.8
Perspective-Control lens. It surpasses any other 35 Nikkor at f2.8 by
far, and is visibly sharper and more contrasty at 4 and 5.6 also. The PC
feature also is very useful. It's the only 35 I carry anymore with the
Nikon, despite its pre-set diaphragm. The 35/2 AF is the next-best,
followed by the 1.4 manual, if you need the speed and don't mind the size
and weight. Forget all the other Nikon 35's, past and present.
Leica's so much easier. My 35/2 ASPH is the best 35 I've ever shot,
period, but my 1974 model by f2.8 and my 1963 Summaron by f4 are just a
quick step behind it . Considering I shoot mostly at f4-5.6, any of
these lenses are interchangeable. Even my 1953 3.5/35 LTM Summaron
(slightly larger than a coat button!) is still a fine lens.

Regards,
Nigel
