I'm not sure who this suggestion/tip came from a little while back, although
I think it was Ted. In any event, someone suggested that the way to increase
focusing speed with the M was to always use the infinity mark as the
"resting" position for the lens, and then thus always focus closer, snapping
the subject into focus.

Well, does that work! Not that the M is hard to focus in any event, but this
method has the real advantage that you're always turning the lens in the
same direction, not rocking back and forth. So, thanks...
