Dear Dave,
I know this is a Leica list, but I think that with your budget you might do
best with an Olympus OM1 (about $200.00) with an f3.5 macro lens. This lens
is a true macro, but is also excellent at infinity, especially if stopped
down a bit. I fear that a $500.00 Leica and lens will not be able to give
you the qualitiies you mention. I fear this will elicit the wrath of some.
If you think of photography as a hobby I think you are right to start with a
limited investment.
Sincerely,

Joe Stephenson
