Sounds like you need to experiment a bit with your developing time 
with Xtol.  I'm metering at 320 (to be safe) and developing for 5 1/2 
minutes in a 1:1 solution of Xtol at 68 deg. F. in a Jobo.  That's a 
20% reduction from the time recommended by Kodak.  That change, with 
my setup, has made my Leica negatives out of a gamut of lenses and 
bodies (IIIc to R8) a lot easier to print.
