This is not 100% correct. Parts and subsets of both M and R series are 
made in the Leica factory in Portugal, but the final manufacturing is 
made in Germany. The biggest added value (socalled "local content") is 
made in Germany, not in Portugal, hence the signature: "made in Germany". 
Most lenses, however, apart from the entry-level zooms, are developed as 
well as manufactured in Germany solely.
