The BBC in its wisdom has done much worse. During my time in the R&D
Department I saw the MTF bench (the very first MTF bench in the
world, according to some) sawn into pieces with a hacksaw.

I'm not sure if things have changed since I left, but in my time even
if staff wanted to buy obsolete equipment we were expressly forbidden
from doing so. I saw many examples of this kind of vandalism and
waste while I was there.
