Other possibilities include one or more of the Leica models and the Minox series, but I know very little about either (except that the Minox is entirely manual). I have a GR1, and recommend it enthusiastically. It gives reasonable control over the aperture, has a very solid magnesium body, is small enough to slip into a shirt pocket, and the lens is good enough to make very satisfactory 11x14 prints. It's a fixed 28mm lens though, not a zoom, and this may factor in to your decision.
