The Third ASMP Biennial Conference will be getting underway in San Diego
this Thursday. with presentations on Friday and Saturday, so time
running out to attend. We are nearing full house, so reservations need
to be made quickly.

There are several Leica photographers presenting work. Perhaps you can
guess who they are.

What will you see if you attend?

War photographer Tim Page will present a multimedia version of
"Requiem," a book he edited of photographs from photographers killed in
the VietNam war, and will speak on the state of photojournalism.

Bob Sacha, long time location shooter for National Geographic, NG
Traveler and other magazines as well as corporate brochures and annual
reports, will speak about staying creative on the road.

Elyse Weissberg, NY based rep and consultant will speak on marketing
yourself.

Roger Ressmeyer, long time editorial stock shooter who recently left
Corbis will discuss strategies for success in the new markets.

Donald Atkinson, a VP with Franklin Quest will tell how to get more time
to do what you want.

Arnold Newman will discuss the art of portraiture.

Ryszard Horowitz will speak on "Expanding the Imagination" and show
examples of his computer composited work.

Antonin Kratochvil will speak and show work from his recent book "Broken
Dream," that documents Eastern Europe since the end of the cold war.
Plus he will dislcuss how he balances documentary work with more
commercial work.

Lee Varis will speak on digital illustration and show how he uses
Photoshop as a digital darkroom for assignment and stock images.

Max MacKenzie will explore the art of architectural images, with
concentration on before and after lighting and styling, drawn from
assignments around the US.

"Integrating Art and Commerce" will be the subject of a panel including
Greta Mitchell (fine art photographer and author from San Francisco),
Philipp Scholz Rittermann (San Diego based fine art photographer) and
Mary Swanson, founder of Swanstock, a stock agency committed to
marketing fine art photography into the commercial arenas.

Karen Kuehn will speak on creative portraiture and how to work quickly
with very little to make photographs that capture the soul of the
subject.

There will also be an awards banquet on Saturday night and a brunch at
the San Diego Zoo (including animals to see and pet at your table).

The conference has two main objectives:

1. To bring members together to share information and enhance
creativity.

2. To add to the legal funds that let ASMP work toward better copyright
legislation and other issues affecting professional photographers.

For registration, check the ASMP web site

www2.asmp.org

or call 619-565-9631

If you are not an ASMP member, you may be able to attend as a guest of
an ASMP member.

Hope to see you here.
