If you're referring to the SF20 flash unit, it seems it will only work in
TTL mode with the R8 and new M6-TTL cameras.

The R8 uses the newer SCA-3000 system adapters (the SCA-3051 for the Leica
R8) which employ digital communication with the camera. Apparently the new
M6-TTL uses the same system.

The R7 uses the SCA-300 system (SCA-351) which is analog. Unfortunately, the
two are not compatible. You can use the automatic mode ("A") with the R7. In
this case the flash uses it's own light sensor rather than one in the
camera. According to the brochure the SF20 supports 3 automatic apertures
(2.8, 5.6, and 11).
