Does this > even make sense? > G G Asking "that" question in this forum is a bit like asking Hillary Clinton what she thinks of Ken Star :-).... Seriously though. The argument against can best be summed up as follows: 1. The Leica is a thing of beauty. Covering it with black tape is akin to placing black tape on areas of the Mona Lisa. 2. Anyone who knows what a Leica is will know what it is with or without the black tape. Anyone who doesn't know - most people - won't know even if its says Leica and flashes a red dot. 3. Smart thieves will steal it with or without black tape. 4. Stupid thieves will ignore it with or without black tape. 5. It's already black, so a little red dot doesn't make any difference. 6. Black tape will gum up the surface. The arguements for: 1. Taping over the red dot and white lettering make the camera truly unobtrusive. 2. When taped over, it looks like your grandfather's point & shoot, and no one will bother stealing it. 3. Anything to make it less attractive to thieves, without damaging the camera, may be worth doing. 4. You can protect parts of the finish - the lettering, tape the edges, with tape - and the tape, and goo, are easily removed. 5. It would have looked much cooler to begin with if Leitz had left off that damn red dot and those white letters. 6. You feel more comfortable, and therefore will attract less attention, if you tape it over. Conclusion: To tape or not to tape, that is the question...And only you can answer it. (I tape :-) )
