Given the fact that technique is a far greater factor than lens quality, I'd bet that you are just a better photographer than the other guy! ;-) One thing you didn't mention was which Leicas you were using. I can usually recognize shots produced by my M lenses right away. If you were, in fact, using an M camera, then I can see how this might have happened, particularly in marginal lighting conditions. I have just started using an R6.2 along with 35-70 f4 vario elmar and 80-200 vario elmar. Truthfully, I can't tell any difference in general image quality between the 80-200 vario and my Canon 70-200 f2.8, which is really a fine lens. And the EOS1n's AF system is so fast and accurate that you can squeeze every bit of sharpness out of it. The smallest focusing errors squander any optical advantage the vario may have. So, I'm not really seeing much benefit to the R system yet. The results are very good, but not visibly better than what I get from my Canons and certainly don't dazzle like those from the M6. There is something very special about the M system. I don't know whether it's the excellence of the lenses, the accuracy of the rangefinder focusing system, or the fact that the camera ha such low vibration. I'm sure it's a combination of all three. But I am not able to reproduce the quality of images that I get consistently from the M6s with any other camera system, INCLUDING Leica R. Yes, that is exactly what happened, that is exactly what the differnces between the pictures were, and that is exactly what the Canon owner said.
