Subject: [Leica] Leica, the Summitar, & Coating

Regular production coating commenced at Leitz in '46; some lenses, but not
many, might have been coated before to meet a given contract's
requirements. Leitz freely offered an inexpensive service to coat older
lenses after the War, which complicates the issue immensely, as no records
survived the mid-80's cleaning-out with the move to Solms indicating which
lenses were so treated.

Of course, Leitz did not seem to use the protrected Zeiss vacuum-coating
system until the later 1950's, at a date and serial number I am still
essaying to establish.
