Jim,
I have the 35-70 / 3.5 Vario Elmar-R- I assume it is the older of the 3.5s
as the 4.0 is the newest. The front element on mine rotates!
It does have a really decent built in shade, and on a recent trip to the
coast, I had marvelous results! Unless you do 16x20s with your 35 negs, I
wouldn't worry about the Leica Zooms. I am really happy I got mine!
