David,
I store them in a freezer, in spite of advice I have heard over and over
again recommending not to do so. I store all my batteries this way
(nicads, AAs, Vartas, M buttons, 6 & 9 volt alkalines, etc. except wet
cells, which I don't use) and have never had a problem with anything
leaking out of them. I have a spare fridge for film and this kind of
stuff. To be safe, keep them in a tupperware container, or wrap them in
leakproof plastic baggies if you are storing them near food. They should
last longer frozen than if left at room temp when not in use. Pick up
about a dozen 625s from Canada to offset shipping costs, and you are good
well into the next millennium.
