Leitz Canada (ELCAN) made optical devices for military use for many years. Lenses for spy sattelites, surveillance camera lenses, rifle sites for NATO and many classified projects we may never know about. As well as the military M4 (KE7-A) for the US military. The 180/3.4 APO for the US Navy. E. Leitz, Wetzlar made gunsights for Panther and Tiger tanks during WWII. They also designed and produced the first active infra red night fighting devices for the Panther tank. Zeiss was also very actively involved in the German was effort in WWII.
