In terms of portability and price, the Palmpilot is a great machine for replacing a Day Runner or other organizer two which you refer often for addresses, but do not have to enter information frequently. A pilot is okay for reading email, but is a major pain for anything more than one line emails. The handwriting recognition itself is good, but it is tedious. I use a HP 620lx (handheld, color display). It is more expensive, but even a halfway decent touch-typer can work faster with two fingers on a miniature keyboard than with a pen on a little slippery screen. Plus, the standard VGA width screen of the Pilot's larger competitors is better for reading email and web browsing.
