There must be a better way. Can I make a vague (as usual) suggestion.=20
First let me give an example of traffic handling on the Amateur Radio
Nets. Lets take the maritime mobile nets of which I am familier.=20
There can be over 200 boaters on ONE frequency directed by a net
controller. The important point is that when a discussion develops
between only a few hams on a subject not of general interest, the net
controller asks them to move to another frequency. Quite often, the
net controller misjudges what is interesting to the majority (maybe
its a slanging match), and the whole 200 (say) move frequency with
them. Ghouls. Of course they later, when the battle is over, have a
good moan about the wasted bandwidth. End of example.

We have a similar situation on the LUG with calls to take certain
discussions to private e-mail. However this in most cases is
impossible unless it is only beween two people, and that is rare. And
in any case nobody else can follow them, even with the complication of
cc's. The discussion therefore tends to stay on this list. So the
whole LUG has to read/delete a conversation that is not of general
interest.

My suggestion is this, We need a LUG2 list. Instead of going to
private e-mail the paricipants can move to LUG2. It could be set up,
probably in digest form and loaded down in parallel with LUG1. Those
that choose to follow a narrow interest discussion can read LUG2 or
delete it with one keystroke.

Are there any other solutions? With 700 subscribers and growing, there
will soon be a problem.
