Well, yeah, having a self-timer as an electronic cable release is nice -- I've
certainly grown accustomed to using such things -- but what, precisely is a
"little better" about the R8 implementation? I seem to recall that the EOS-1
was far more convenient to use this way -- the self-timer delay choices are
among the `drive modes' selectable: I seem to recall the list's being single,
continuous-fast, continuous-slow, 2s-delay, 10s-delay (probably how I got
confused and called the R8's longer delay 10s instead of 12) -- so you just
set the delay mode and use it for all pictures until you changed the mode
again. Of course, I never had an EOS-1N, so I don't know how this would
interact with mirror lock.

I like the R8 a whole bunch, and I'm a sucker for Leica glass, but I remain
impressed with the EOS-1 as an effective, usable picture-taking machine.
