Subject: Re: [Leica] Precision-molding aspherical lens elements

The blank-molding technology used by Leica seems to have been the result of
a pooling of technology between Zeiss, Leica, and Docter Optic. Docter
claims they own the patent rights to the process and that Leica uses it
under license, but this was disputed a year or so back on the LUG.

The problem Leica had with the production of the initial 1.4/25 Aspherical
Summilux led to their adoption of the blank-molding process.

I had never heard of a Tamron involvement.
