It has nothing to do with you, your home country, or traditon etc.

It's a well-known strategy to make one look good and the other one 
look bad. It works best, if the statement is biased by in general 
accepted prejudices.

If you say "Nikon is ... ", or even worse, "Mrs/Mr X of Nikon is ... ",
you need to pay hard $$$, if Mrs/ Mr X's laywer reacts a little nasty. 

If you say "Japan is ... " or "Japanese are ...", you say whatever you 
like, almost at least, and nothing will happen.
