And of course, Landrover is now owned by BMW, so they obviously appreciated
it too.
There was an interesting exchange between Jeremy Clarkson, a well-known and
irreverent UK motoring journalist and the head of BMW about the Discovery
(pre BMW design) and the new Freelander (big input from BMW).
The question he asked was:
"Are you confident enough about the reliability of the Discovery now that I
can come round and burn down your house if it goes wrong?"
The answer was "No."
"What about the Freelander?"
"Yes"
To keep this on topic, I'd stake something pretty valuable on the
reliability of my venerable M3s and M2. I'd be less sure about betting the
farm on the R8, judging by what I"ve read on the LUG.
BTW, I drive both a Discovery (utterly reliable for 34,000 miles) and a BMW
(utterly reliable for 87,000 miles). But maybe I got lucky.
