I still have a Tamron 28-200 zoom for my EOS 10s, the only zoom I own, and it works perfectly on the camera body. If an aftermarket supplier doesn't get something right, it is their own error, not the OEM's fault. No, the lens mounts are patented, and protected. If you made a lens using, say, a Nikon or Canon lens mount, you would be told to cease and desist forthwith by one of the nastier members of my profession. Now, if you paid Nikon or Canon MONEY, the nasty fellow would suddenly quit bothering you! Aftermarket car parts are different: there, the mounting holes aren't what's patented, just the item itself. In some cases (say, Borg-Warner gearboxes) the original is often better than the OEM item. But if you copied a GM starter, micro-millimeter by micro-millimeter, and someone told the boys in Detroit, that same nasty fellow I mentioned above, or his or her twin, would be writing you another nasty letter.
