Well, despite the current of opinions I continue to use UV protection
filters after 35 years of photography and still get sharp, flare free
images.  Interesting to me, though, was a recent acquisition-a 1988 vintage
35mm Summicron-R.  It's interesting because the front "element" appears to
be something other than an element.  It's flat (or at least nearly so) and
appears to be a......well......a built in UV filter.  Curious.
