Subject: [Leica] 35's compared

a simple question to yield difficult answers - is the new ASPH Summicron
worth the added weight and size? Can you tell the difference in handheld
shooting? Also, someone here mentioned that the new one might be easier to
handle - focus and change f-stops.

A local photographer visited on Monday with his new 35 f1.4 Aspherical and
I made some test shots on Velvia with it and my own 35 Summicron. The 35
Aspherical is quite impressive wide open. Impressive performance, even for
a Leica user. At smaller apertures, it's difficult to see any difference
between the chromes shot with each lens. I was really impressed at how
good the corners were at f1.4, though, and they were pin sharp by f2. It's
an exceptional lens. He also brought a 75mm Summilux with him and I found
it to be outstanding wide open as well. I'm not sure I should count this
man among my friends, though. I've been content with my 35 Summicron and
90 Elmarit for some time. Now I've begun longing for something faster. It
always happens, doesn't it?
