It all depends on the goals and tastes of the user. A general rule might be to
use shorter focal lengths (75 mm and shorter) with a rangefinder and use the
SLR for longer focal lengths and specialized work like macrophotography or use
with a microscope. It's always best (my opinion) to start simple and basic and
then add equipment that seems to have a definite need. You can do a lot with a
50mm lens.
