     Bob,

Let's not wax irrational here. I have no idea whether Leica plans an
autofocus camera and, frankly, don't much care. But just as there are
those today who'd refuse to consider any such AF camera a "true Leica,"
so years ago, no doubt, there were those who refused to consider any
SLR a "true Leica" and, later, who refused to consider any autoexposure
camera a "true Leica." Perhaps no camera with a built-in light meter
is a "true Leica," maybe no camera with anything but screwmount lenses,
or even no camera without a fixed lens (i.e., the "original...intent").

The upholding of standards need not amount to a flight from innovation.

     Art Peterson

It does'nt seem necessary that Leica repeats the same mistakes every twenty
years or so, just because some Leica users insist on letting AF aside. An AF
Leica would have simply a different market. --Christian Becker

Christian,

There is a point where the nature and extent of a change in a product
transforms that product into something other than the original in intent and
purpose. A Leica is one thing. An AF is another.

Sure, if Solms wants to produce an AF, let it be called by its true name, a
Solms. Let's not confuse it with a Leica.
