If I were to shoot coins, I would use hot lights. You can see reflections
much better. I think different coins will need changes in lighting to best
show the texture, relief, etc. You won't know how it will look with flash.
Shiney metal is tricky to shoot. If it looks good to your eye, its probably
going to be too hot. Light it so it looks alittle flat.
