Thank you all for you helpful advice pertaining to tripods.  I decided
upon the Benbo Trekker.  It is a wonderful unit, quick to deploy and to
fold, folds flat against a backpack; is so verstile a head is not really
needed; is in fact a hindrance.  I'm satisfied and, I suspect $800 richer.
