So I took that old Leicaflex SL I bought in Cambridge out to photograph
some old industrial sites yesterday. There were a couple of interesting
things I noticed about working with it. First, even though I couldn't see
the aperture in the finder, I found it pretty easy to work with. It does
feel very good in the hands. It's just a brick. Second, it is easier and
quicker to focus the SL with a 50/2 than an R6 with the standard screen and
a 50/2. Even with a deep red filter it was easy to focus.

I don't like the microprisms in the standard R screen at all. They're
largely useless for me, so I usually use a gridded groundglass screen on my
R6 and R6.2, except with a 21mm lens where I miss the split image. I'd
taken the R6 with a 21/4 on it, so I had the standard screen mounted, and
when I swapped put a 50/2 on it to compare ease of focusing with the SL, I
was struck by how noticeable the difference was.

On a separate topic, I notice that people on the list have been discussing
scanners again, and mostly talking about the Nikon LS-1000 Supercoolscan.
I thought I'd just raise the flag for the Polaroid Sprintscan 35+, which I
have found to be an excellent piece of equipment. It's reliable, you can
raise the top to clean it if you want, the software allows a lot of image
manipulation in the driver, and if you have questions Polaroid service is
responsive and polite.
