I belatedly marked my own 50th year with a 65mm Elmar & Bellows II as I continue to move away from Nikon. With regard to appropropriate literature on the M3 in a language friendlier than German, you may be able to find some writings by Gianni Rogliatti of Turin who authored "Leica - The first 50 (and 60 and 70) years" and "Leica Lens Practice." I do not know in what language these titles were originally published, but my copies do carry notations about being the first English editions.
