Bill,
When I used my M5 (before it got stolen) I'd bought it without a strap. I 
had a Sony Discman strap lying around unused and that fitted a treat, just 
the right sized straps at either end and a nice wide non slip neck piece. A 
little vulgar though if you like being discreet...
