That's what the "T" stands for. The screw mount Leicas had it, 
the Ms miss it, unfortunately. It's similar with the X sign,
introduced when photography became both, popular and internationl: 
it was intended as help for amateurs, indicating the correct 
timing/ focussing of flash bulbs at X-mas. 
 
And, ;) is the sign of dominant left eye photographers.

PS:  B stands for "beliebig" (= any time/ whatever you like).
