It does.  Any other Leica reflex is an R camera.  And certainly anyone
fortunate enough to own  an R8 would surely have called it an R8, not a
Leicaflex. :-)

Be that as it may, nothing will happen if you move the MLU lever prior to
cocking the shutter.  And I mean absolutely nothing will happen (except the
lever will move).
