English (or any subject, for that matter) teachers of today venture into
correcting their students' spelling and grammar with some trepidation,
viz., that they will be sued by said students. At least this is so in
some higher ed environs.

A relevant(?) piece of whimsy:

Latin teacher asks on a spot quiz for the principal parts of the verb "to run".
Student-without-a-clue writes: runo, runere, skipi, skiptus.
Red pencil on returned quiz: foolo, foolere, fleki, flunktus.
(Teacher probably not sued: this is a very old - ugh - joke.)

Apologies for wandering off the Leica reservation here.
