Subject: Leica booth at PhotoPlus (NYC)

Just got back from the photo show in NYC at the Javitts Center. Since I'm
back out on my own after five years as a phjoto staffer, I thought I'd
better take in some seminars to get the promotional/marketing juices
running.

Between seminars, I stepped through the trade show. Of course, I stopped at
the Leica booth, picked up some obligatory brochures, and then was
pleasantly surprised to find almost hidden in one corner two techs who were
doing free examinations and shutter speed tests of bodies and lenses.
Luckily my M6 checked out (don't think it has ever been serviced since
purchase in 1985).

One suggestion made to me by the examiner was that I should leave the
shutter speed setting on Bulb when not shooting, because this ensured that
the meter would be turned off, especially in a camera bag and thus not run
down the batteries. This was news to me (the Bulb setting), but it sure
sounds like a good idea.

Also looked at the new 21 ASPH lens. VERY nice looking. May start saving my
$$ for a future purchase. I know from experience that I DO like that focal
length, having owned a 21 f3.4 in the past. The external 21mm finder on the
sample M6 also showed a nice clear image, I thought.

Luckily they aren't allowed to sell cameras/lenses, etc. at the show.
(However, B&H photo at their new location is only a 8-10 minute walk away;
I ONLY bought film and a bulk loader).

Cheers,

Chris
