There was no design change advertised but Leica is known (and Leitz befor=
e)
for  regularly improving the coating of lenses (like the 50 Summilux
between 1964 and now etc..)
Maybe that's the answer.
My own Noctilux (one of the first) is not at his best against the light
(sun or spot etc..) and I have friends who are really happy in the same
situation with later Noctilux.
