As far as I am concerned, the best M camera is the current one, the M6. The built-in meter is simple to use yet suberb in its ability to do the job. Save yourself some money and look for a used one. As far as lenses go, take a hint from a current thread on the list, buy yourself a Dual Range (DR) 50mm f2 Summicron lens. This is the 50mm lens that all others are compared to. A good used one (they're all used; it hasen't been built since 1968) is relatively inexpensive compared with current versions. Another good lens choice is the 90mm f2.8 Tele-Elmarit. It is optically excellent, and its compact size and light weight are what Leica photography is all about. Used ones are common and again, reasonably priced (if that means anything when talking about Leicas!). A good used 35/2 Summicron would be a good selection as well, though I personally own the 35/1.4 aspheric Summilux (don't ask me why). As far as fast lenses go (f1.4 or f1), buy them only if you think you really need the extra stop and plan on actually using them at that opening. Unlike SLRs where a fast lens equates to a brighter viewfinder, there is absolutely no advantage to the fast lens openings unless you actually plan on doing low light hand held photography at F1.4 or F1. There is a BIG price jump along with weight jump required to get that extra speed. A previous post recommended the 50mm F1 Noctilux. A marvelous lens for what it is intended for, but compare its size and weight to the 50mm F2 Summicron and decide for yourself (Then look at the price tag; 'nough said) Dan C.
