Locally Kodachrome development takes a week and is quite expensive. By trial and error I've found some local labs that maintain their C-41 equipment well and do 1-hour development. I have a good film scanner and can produce proofs at home, and decide what I want to have printed by a good lab and give them a reasonable idea of what the color and exposure should look like. Overall it works pretty smoothly.
