Subject: 28 Elmarit question

I have a 28 Elmarit that I just noticed a few spots on the very outer 
edges of the rear element.  These spots are inside the last element, not 
on the outer surface.  It has been explained that the outer edges of the 
element do not affect the image quality.  Is this true.  Is this a comon 
problem.  The lens is appx 1 year or so old and is the 3rd incarnation of 
the 28.

Any info is greatly appreciated.
