Ted,

I do something similar. I always put the camera bag between my feet then
hook the strap over my bent knee, so that it goes around my shin and over
my thigh, so I can feel the weight of the bag on my thigh. Because you
can feel its weight, you are aware of it and not likely to forget about
it. If you do somehow forget, you may notice that your leg doesn't work
when you try to leave.

Ted, having just talked big about how clever I am keeping track of my
bag--

On our way back from Seattle, I set my PowerBook on the shelf at the end
of the car when Marcia and I were taking the train between terminals at
the airport. Amazingly, it was still there when that train came back
around again 15 minutes later. I looked in every train as they cycled
through--it was a long 15 minutes. In most airports, it would either be
gone or would have caused a bomb scare.
