Read in Leica Fotografie International (German edition) 5/97:

- -Turnover rose in 1996/97 with 10.7% to 265.6 million DEM compared to 1995/96.
- - Net results were lower than expected due to serious manufacturing
difficulties for the new R8 product line and the difficult market for
compact cameras: minus 7.4% to 15.2 million DEM compared to 1995/96.
- - Turnover for R series rose with 51% to 64.9 million DEM, notwithstanding
the manufacturing difficulties with the new R8 (up to March only 5000
cameras could be made, and from March on, 1300 cameras are now produced per
month). Good sales of the R7 contributed to the healthy results for the R
series and could compensate somewhat for the R8 difficulties.
- - Turnover for M series rose with 8.5% to 76 million DEM.
- - Turnover for compact cameras declined with 25% to 32.4 million DEM due to
serious market difficulties (competition!).
- - Turnover for binoculars rose with 28% to 38.4 million DEM.
- - Turnover for slide projectors rose with 22% to 19.5 million DEM.

Better results are expected for 1997/98, now that the major R8 delivery
difficulties have been resolved.
