After the second one deteriorated(within three years) I switched to the more classic 135 f4 tele-elmar hood. There was no problem in using the 39mm screw in filter and then attaching the collapsed rubber hood with the standard lens cap. But eventually the rubber degrades, probably facilitated by the fatigue of extending and retracting the hood, and replacement is necessary. Hence, the solution lies in acquiring the 135 tele- elmar or the identical 90 f2.8 elmarit hood. While I ussually abstain from endorsing dealers, I would like to bring to the user community's attention a NJ Leica specialist and collector: JIMMY TONG, Jimmy's Camera 2583 Morris Avenue,Union, NJ 07083 908-688-8498(voice/fax) Jimmy is very knowledgeable on all things Leica. He is very fastidious and all items are ex++ or better. He is very reasonable in pricing, both buying and selling. And if he does not have an item in stock, he can usually get it within a few days or weeks. Besides, Leica, he also deals in Contax(German and Japanese),Nikon,Hasselblad and Rolleiflex.
