I've heard one story from a Leica rep that Leica had experimented with
the Contax AX system 10 years ago and decided it wasn't good enough.  So
perhaps patents are not an issue.  But maybe the control technology has
improved enough to make this work now to Leica standards.  Besides, view
cameras focus with the back standard, so what could be patentable??
