The doctor said presbopia or something like that which is 'normal' as we get older. But finally the doctor said one problem I had was that I always had some visual problem but when I was younger my eyes 'accomodated' as I got older I lost that and as a result I now need correction for both astigmatism and distance viewing as well as close up! This year I got tired of having to switch between two pair of glasses, one for distance and a 'split' for closeup and computer viewing. So now I am trying contact lenses. I must say that these seem to be the best solution. I still use a simple +1 diopter to view close but its nice to walk around and see things without constantly fussing with glasses. The only problem so far is that I am using 'soft' contacts and in the office they seem to dry out rather quickly and get blurry in the late afternoon. I tried the 'hard' contacts but in a short 5-10 minute 'trial' they seemed like they would be hard to get used to. I still have in mind trying them again after a year with the soft contacts. The only disturbing thing is that I was told my contacts do NOT provide UV protection and that I should wear sunglasses! Yet another pair of glasses to lug around. For photography I think contacts are the best way to go. Even though I need a simple pair of glasses to read the film box! Dennis - -- Experience is a tough teacher.
