.30-'06 is .308. 8MM (8x57JS anyway) is .323. Where does .318 come from,
the early Mauser '88 bore? The Argentine Mauser was 7.65 (M1891) or 7.92.
Anyway, my point still holds. No .308 in even a .318 bore is going to
produce anything that could be called "accuracy" by a Leicaphile. Besides,
what the heck are you shooting at 300 yards? Revenooers?

And forgive my thoughtless jape re your correspondence, which stands well
enough on its own merits.
