Subject: The Genealogy of the 90mm f/2.8 M Lens

This be the saga of the 2.8/90 M lenses:

ELMARIT:  1959-74  five elements, three groups, two behind the iris.
Weight:  350g (approx 11 oz)  More than 29,000 made (exact number unknown)

TELE-ELMARIT, first version:  1964-74  five elements, five groups, two
behind the iris.  Weight:  325g (approx 10 oz).  Number produced unknown.

TELE-ELMARIT, second version:  1974-89  four elements, four groups, two
behind the iris.  Weight:  220g (approx 7 1/2 oz).  Number produced unknown.

ELMARIT-M (current version):  1994 (?) - present  redesign having four
elements in four groups.  Weight:  410g (approx 14 1/2 oz).

The latest Elmarit is a telephoto lens despite its name.  It is MOST highly
recommended.
